Adding and subtracting fractions
Fractions can only be added when their bottom numbers match. The calculator finds the lowest common denominator, rewrites each fraction over it, adds or subtracts the top numbers and then simplifies. Mixed numbers like 1 1/2 are turned into improper fractions first, so 1 1/2 becomes 3/2.
Multiplying and dividing
To multiply, multiply the tops together and the bottoms together. To divide, flip the second fraction upside down and multiply. Each answer is reduced to its simplest form and shown as a mixed number when it is bigger than one.
Repeating decimals
Switch to Convert to turn decimals and percents into fractions. Type a repeating decimal with three dots, like 0.333... or 0.1666..., or put the repeating part in brackets, like 0.1(6). The working shows the classic method: multiply so the repeats line up, subtract, and solve.
