How it works
Chrome is adding a small writing model that runs on your own computer, along with a Rewriter that can change the tone and length of text. When your browser has it, this page asks it to rewrite your text and shows the result. Nothing is sent to a server, and once the model is downloaded it works offline.
Which browsers can rewrite here
The built-in Rewriter is new and still rolling out, so many browsers do not have it yet, including most phones. When yours does not, this page says so plainly rather than sending your text to an online service. Rewriting needs a real language model, so there is no honest way to fake it.
Tips for better rewrites
- Rewrite a paragraph or an email at a time rather than a whole document.
- Say what the text is for, such as a message to your landlord or a cover letter.
- Read the result before you send it. Check names, numbers and dates especially.
