Lecture notes from a transcript

Paste the transcript of a lecture and get clean notes with headings, key terms and a short summary.

Everything happens in this browser tab. Your text is never uploaded.

How the notes are made

The text is cleaned first: caption timestamps, cue numbers and filler words such as “um” are removed. Headings already in the text are kept. When there are none, the text is split where the topic changes and each part is named after its main terms. The most important sentences of each part become the bullet points, and sentences such as “Glucose is a simple sugar” become key terms with their definitions.

From notes to flashcards and quizzes

Every key term with a definition becomes a card with the term on the front. Terms without a definition become fill-in-the-blank cards made from a sentence in your text. Make flashcards opens them as a new deck in Flashcards, and Make a quiz opens them in the quiz maker, where you can print a test with an answer key.

What works best

Clear, complete sentences give the best notes, so a cleaned-up transcript works better than rough fragments. For a recording, transcribe it first with speech to text or the lecture recorder, then paste the result here. Scanned PDFs need to be made searchable first, because the notes are built from the text inside the file.

Is the summary written by AI?

By default the notes are made from your own sentences, picked and ordered by how central they are to the text, so nothing is made up. If your browser has a built-in summarizer, you can ask it to write the summary instead. It runs on your device as well.
