Writing a flowchart
Put an arrow between steps, such as Start -> Check the email -> Reply. Give a step a short name and a shape by writing the name followed by the text in brackets: [box], (rounded), {decision} or ((circle)). Label an arrow by adding a colon at the end, as in ask -> yes_step: yes, or by writing it inside the arrow, --no-->. Steps ending in a question mark become decisions automatically.
Writing a mind map
Write the main idea on the first line, then indent each branch under it with two spaces, and indent again for details. Branches are spread on both sides of the centre and each gets its own colour. Pasting a bulleted list from your notes works too.
Editing by clicking and saving
Click a box to change its text or shape, add a step after it, connect it to another step or delete it. The text updates to match, so you can switch between typing and clicking. Save the diagram as PNG for documents and slides, or as SVG to keep it sharp at any size and edit it in a design tool.
